Torii Hunter: What Kills Your Dreams
October 14, 2013 · 1 min read · Dr. Rob Pasick
Yesterday morning, I was deeply moved by this quote in the New York Times from one of my favorite Tigers, Tori Hunter:
“Fear, doubt and worry, that’s what kills your dreams,” Torii Hunter said, adding: “In life and in baseball, if you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do, that’s because you feared it, you doubted it and you worried about it. So I don’t worry, fear or doubt. I just go out and play and whatever the results are, that’s what’s meant to be.”
Watching the thrilling playoff game last night between the Red Sox and the Tigers, Torii made me a total believer. Leaping so high for a fly ball hit by David Ortiz , he catapulted headfirst over the right-field wall. Now that’s what I call overcoming fear doubt and worry.
So let’s take our lesson today from Detroit’s great Torii Hunter. Remember:
- “if you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do, that’s because you feared it, you doubted it and you worried about it.”
- So ..don’t worry, fear or doubt…just go out and play (your game)
- …and whatever the results are, that’s what’s meant to be.”
